We are located out in Village Kuddi, right near Post Sadar on NH-24. Working for Il&Fs Engineering And Construction Company Limited means we are often surrounded by heavy machinery and piles of gravel. Being right on the national highway means there is a constant stream of trucks and cars zooming past us. It gets very dusty, especially when the wind picks up across the open fields. Our office is more like a temporary setup with some desks and a lot of maps pinned to the walls. We spend our days looking at construction schedules and making sure the supplies like cement and steel arrive on time. It’s a lot of coordination between the guys on the site and the suppliers. Village life is quiet compared to the noise of the construction work we do. Sometimes we walk over to the local tea shop in Kuddi just to get away from the sound of the engines for a bit. We don't have fancy uniforms, just high-visibility vests and hard hats when we are outside. The work is tough and the hours are long, especially when we are trying to meet a deadline before the monsoon hits. We deal with a lot of different people, from truck drivers to site foremen. It’s a busy life here on the edge of the highway, and there is always something that needs fixing or moving. It is just life on the road.
