Our unit is over in Phase- 2 Extension at the Hosiery Complex, specifically at C- 57. It’s a big gray building like many others around here. When you walk in, you’ll see stacks of pallets and rolls of cloth waiting to be moved. We have a lot of people working on different stages of the clothing, from cutting to stitching to packing. The concrete floors are hard on your feet if you don’t wear the right shoes. I usually have a clipboard in my hand trying to keep track of what’s going where. It gets dusty, especially when we’re handling a lot of fleece or heavy knits. The fans on the ceiling spin all day long, but it still gets warm when the sun hits the metal roof. We’ve got a routine here that starts early in the morning and doesn't really stop until late afternoon. The parking lot outside is always full of motorcycles belonging to the staff. Sometimes the delivery drivers get lost looking for this specific block, so we have to go out and wave them down. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. We focus on getting the piles of fabric turned into finished shirts and pants. There isn't much decor to speak of, just some old calendars and the necessary equipment. It’s a straightforward operation where everyone knows their spot on the floor and what needs to get done before the shift ends.
