It’s usually pretty quiet around Sector 37 128 early in the morning. We arrive before the sun is fully up to get the machines going and make sure everything is ready for the first few people who walk through the door. Most of our early visitors are just looking for a quick cup of coffee before they head off to their jobs, and they don’t usually say much. We spend a good chunk of the morning just wiping down the tables and checking that the sugar jars are full. The shop isn't fancy, but it has enough chairs for people to sit and talk for a bit. By the afternoon, the noise from the street outside picks up quite a bit. You can hear the horns and the buses passing by constantly. Inside, we just focus on keeping the orders moving. Sometimes the milk delivery is a little late, and we have to tell people to wait a few minutes, which is always a bit awkward. We have a few regulars who have been coming here for a long time. They always sit in the same corner and stay for an hour or so. We don’t have any big mission or anything like that; we just try to keep the place tidy and serve the coffee as it’s ordered. It’s a lot of standing around and cleaning up spills, but that’s just the way it is. When our shift ends, we lock up and head home like everyone else.
