Our workspace is located at B- 6 in Sector 59. It is a pretty standard industrial area, so there are a lot of other businesses and workshops around us. The building is made of grey concrete and has a large metal door that we roll up every morning. The metal gate squeaks every time we move it, no matter how much oil we put on it. Inside, it is mostly taken up by the sewing machines and the long cutting tables. It gets quite loud when everything is running at once, so we usually have to raise our voices to hear each other over the hum. We don't have any fancy office furniture, just a few plastic chairs and a desk that has seen better days. The floor is often covered in small scraps of fabric and thread by the end of the shift. We have a small area in the back where we keep the finished garments in plastic bags. The lighting is okay, but we have to use some extra lamps over the machines so everyone can see what they are doing. We take our breaks together and usually just sit on the front steps if the weather is nice enough. There is a lot of dust that comes in from the street because of all the trucks passing by, so we have to wipe down the tables every few hours. It’s a lot of hard work and the days can be long, but we just focus on getting the garments ready for the next delivery.
