The Nazereene Couture House

We’re over at N/24 D Saket, running The Nazereene Couture House. It’s a residential-feeling area, so it’s a bit more relaxed than the main markets. We do a lot of sewing and fitting here. There’s usually thread and fabric scraps on the floor because we’re always in the middle of a project. It’s not a sterile environment; it looks like a place where people actually make clothes. We have some sewing machines that have seen better days but they still work perfectly. Most of our time is spent measuring and cutting. It’s quiet work, mostly. We don’t have a big sign out front or anything. People usually find us because a friend told them where we are in Saket. We’ve been at this address for a while and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a lot to finish. It’s just how it is when you’re making things by hand. We don’t really follow all the fancy trends you see in magazines. We just try to make things that fit well and look okay. The lighting in the back room is a bit dim, but we have lamps for the close-up work. It’s a small operation, just us and the machines. We like it that way. No big meetings, just work. Sometimes the neighbors come by to chat while we’re finishing up. It gets a bit noisy when the sewing machines are all running at once.
