If you know this area, you know how crowded it gets with the shoppers and the rickshaws everywhere. Shree Shankar Agree Agency is tucked away here among all the other shops. It’s a lot of paper shuffling and talking to people who come in looking for specific things. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the other shopkeepers on the block. Sometimes we stand outside for a bit just to catch some air when the shop gets too stuffy. The shelves are packed with files and ledger books because we still like to keep track of things the old way. Karol Bagh is always loud, but you get used to the honking and the shouting after a week. We start early because that’s when it’s coolest and we can get the most work finished. Usually, we take a break in the afternoon when the sun is directly overhead. It’s just a normal agency, nothing too big or complicated. We handle the tasks as they come and try not to let things pile up too much on the desks. It’s a small space, so if more than three people come in at once, it feels very full. We just keep at it, day after day, year after year. We keep the overhead light on even during the day because the street is so narrow.
