Our shop is located at 930 Gali Pattal Wali, which is tucked away in the Maliwara area of Nai Sadak in Chandni Chowk. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes are. It’s a struggle just to get through the crowds sometimes, especially when the rickshaws are trying to pass each other. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. The shop is small and the ceiling is low, which is common for these old buildings in the heart of Delhi. We have sarees stacked all the way to the top. Every morning we sweep the front step and start the day. It’s a lot of climbing up and down ladders to get the right pieces for people. The air is always full of the sounds of the market—people shouting, bells ringing, and the general hum of thousands of people walking by. We don't have air conditioning, just some old fans that move the air around as best they can. It gets really hot in the summer months, but we just drink plenty of water and keep going. Most of our work is done by hand, from unfolding the fabrics to packing them up in brown paper. It’s a traditional way of doing things at Shree Bhawani Sarees, and we don’t see much reason to change it now. We like the history of this place even if it is a bit crowded.
