Seaways Shipping Ltd.

Our office is at 518, Somdutt Chambers-Ii, which is right in the heart of Bhikaji Cama Place. This building has been around for a long time, and you can tell by the way the hallways look. Seaways Shipping Ltd. occupies this space on the fifth floor. It’s a place filled with the smell of old paper and the sound of people typing away. We deal with ships and containers, but from a desk in the middle of the city. There are maps on the wall that are probably out of date, and the filing cabinets are so full they hardly close anymore. We spend our days looking at shipping lanes and coordinate with people at the ports. It’s a lot of back-and-forth on the phone, and sometimes the lines aren't very clear. The office feels a bit cramped because we have so many records from over the years. We usually have the radio playing quietly in the background to drown out the noise from the street below. Bhikaji Cama Place is always crowded, so getting lunch can be a mission. It's a lot of walking. We mostly just bring stuff from home and eat together in the small pantry area. It’s not a high-tech shipping hub with giant screens; it’s just a group of us working through the logistics of moving freight over the ocean. It’s slow, steady work, and we just try to keep the errors to a minimum. It works.
