About Ram Singh Bhoj – Food & Beverages in New Delhi
You can find us at number 22 in Khan Market, which is a bit funny because this market is known for being so expensive and we are just a simple food place. My uncle Ram Singh started this place and we’ve kept it going exactly how he had it. The kitchen is tucked in the back and it gets really steamy when we have all the big pots going at once. We don't have fancy menus or cloth napkins. The chairs are made of heavy wood and they’ve been around for years, so they’re a bit scratched up now. We get a real mix of people here. Some are coming from the big designer stores and others are the workers who keep the market running. Everyone sits together. I usually handle the front, wiping down the tables and making sure the water jugs are full. The floor is made of that old grey stone that never really looks clean even after you scrub it, but we try our best. In the afternoons when it’s quiet, I like to sit by the entrance and watch the fancy cars pull up outside. We don't spend any money on advertising or anything like that. If the food is good, people come back, and that’s always been enough for us. Sometimes the electricity goes off and we have to use the hand fans, but nobody seems to mind too much. It’s just part of being here.
