You can find us at B-35/G-2, right across from the Government School in Dilshad Garden. Being opposite a school means our day is timed by the bells. When the kids get out, the whole street fills up with noise and energy. We’re usually busy in the back before that happens, working with the milk and sugar. The shop is a basic ground-floor space. We have some benches and the display cases that stay fogged up when it’s cold outside. Dilshad Garden is a big residential area, so we see a lot of the same faces every day. Dilshad Garden is where we’ve set up our lives, among the school bells and the local traffic. It’s a regular routine of boiling down milk and checking the consistency of the sweets. The floors are made of stone and they get cold in the winter. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, maybe just a calendar and some shelves for the boxes. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s a small operation, and we don’t try to make it seem like more than it is. We keep the place as clean as we can, but with the dust from the road and the kids running around, it’s a constant job. We just stand behind the counter, wait for the school crowd, and keep the trays filled. It’s a simple way to spend the day.
