Rajasthanmurti Kala Kendra

Our shop is 2H in Ram Nagar, tucked away on Qutab Road in Gali Number 2. If you know Pahar Ganj, you know how busy it gets around here, especially being so close to the New Delhi Railway Station. There is always noise from the trains and the crowds. We’ve been in this spot for years. The space is small, but we make it work for our carving. We handle all sorts of murtis here. It gets very dusty in the shop, so we are constantly sweeping, though it never stays clean for long. That's just part of the job when you work with stone and marble. People from all over come through Pahar Ganj, so we meet a lot of different folks. Some are just passing through from the station and stop to look. We don't have a fancy display window. The work is usually just sitting there on the floor or on some old wooden blocks. We do everything by hand. It’s how we learned and it’s how we keep doing it. Sometimes it's hard to get big pieces of stone through the narrow gali, but we manage. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just make the idols and sell them to whoever needs one for their home or temple. It's a crowded life in Ram Nagar, but it's home for us and our families. We stay busy with the local orders.
