Living and working on Kalkaji Main Road means you never really get any silence. The traffic is always there in the background. My space here for Physics Maths is just a basic office where we handle the coaching. I usually arrive early to open the shutters and let some air in before it gets too hot. The stairs up to the room are a bit narrow, so everyone has to go one by one. I have a small desk where I keep the attendance registers and the fees receipts. Most of the time, I’m just looking for a red pen that hasn’t run out. The students here are local, mostly coming from the nearby blocks. We go through the sums and the formulas on the board, and sometimes we stay late if a particular topic is giving everyone trouble. There is a tea stall just down the road that I visit twice a day. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but the posters of the periodic table and some physics diagrams cover the cracks for now. It’s a busy life. I spend my Sundays mostly just catching up on sleep or marking the test papers from the week before. The light in the hallway flickers sometimes, and I keep reminding myself to call the electrician. It’s just a regular neighborhood spot where we help kids with their school subjects and keep things moving.
