We are up here on the first floor in Lajpat Nagar Part Two, right in the middle of all the noise and people. Vishwa Lakshmi Exports Pvt. Ltd. has been running out of this A-7 spot for a good while now. Most days it is just us dealing with piles of paperwork and making sure the crates get where they need to go on time. It is not a fancy place, mostly just desks pushed together and some old metal filing cabinets that squeak when you open them. Outside the window, you can hear the market vendors shouting and the rickshaws honking all day long. We started small and stayed that way because it works for us. Usually, someone is making tea in the back while the rest of us are on the phone trying to track down a late truck. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there talking until it comes back on. It is honest work, mostly just moving goods from one place to another and making sure the labels are stuck on right. We know the neighbors well and the guy who delivers the mail always stops for a chat. It gets a bit cramped when a big shipment comes in, but we manage to find space for everything somehow. The walls have a few scuffs and the carpet is a bit worn out, but it feels like home to us. That is just how it goes here in this corner of Delhi.
