Mithai Shop is at Lodhi Road Mehar Chand Market 130. It’s a busy spot, and the market is always full of people looking at different things. Our shop is right in the middle of it all. We’ve had this place for a long time, and the walls have seen a lot. The kitchen is in the back, and that’s where most of the work happens. It’s hot and there’s always steam coming off the big pots. We don’t use any high-tech machines, just the same old pans and ladles that we’ve always used. Sometimes the floor gets a bit slippery from all the work, so we have to be careful. We start our day before the sun comes up to get the first batches ready. If we’re late, the customers who stop by on their way to work let us know. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting heavy bags of sugar and containers of milk, but we are used to it by now. The Mehar Chand Market has become a bit more upscale lately, but we haven't changed much. We still have the same old shelves and the same way of doing things. It’s not always pretty, and sometimes the displays look a bit messy during the lunch rush, but we do our best to keep up. We just want to finish the day’s work and get home to our families. It is a long slog every single day.
