Our shop is located in K-138/G-8 of the Gupta Apartment complex. We are right there in Kalkaji, not far from the L-Block Gurudwara. You can often hear the sounds from the Gurudwara when it’s quiet in the shop. We have rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and samples of curtains hanging up wherever they fit. It is a small space, so we have to be careful not to trip over the measuring tapes. Most days we are helping people choose colors for their sofas or showing them different types of blinds. It’s a lot of talking and trying to imagine how a piece of cloth will look in someone’s living room. We do some of the stitching ourselves in the back. The sewing machines have their own rhythm that we’ve grown used to. Kalkaji is a busy area, so there’s always someone popping in to ask a quick question about a cushion cover. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. The lighting in the apartment building isn't the best, so we often take the fabrics to the door to see the true color in the sunlight. It is a simple business. We like the work and the people who stop by. We’ve been here long enough that we know many of the faces who walk past our window every day. It’s just about getting the measurements right and making things look decent.
