Kalgachia Farmer Producer Company Limited is based over in Karol Bagh at 6A/5 on the second floor. It’s right in the West Extension Area, which is usually quite a lively place to be. We are a group that focuses on what the farmers are producing and how to get it to the right people. Being in Central Delhi helps us stay connected to the markets and the transport links. Our office isn't anything special to look at, just a place where we sit down and do the heavy lifting with the numbers and the planning. We get a lot of phone calls from people out in the rural areas. Sometimes the connection isn't great, so we spend a lot of time shouting into our mobiles trying to understand the latest harvest figures. It’s honest work and it feels good to be part of the food chain, so to speak. We aren't corporate types in suits; we are mostly just people who grew up knowing the land and now we handle the business side of it. The stairs up to the second floor are a bit steep, so we get our exercise in every day. We keep it simple here. No big speeches or fancy slogans, just trying to make sure the farmers get a fair deal for what they grow. Every day is a bit of a scramble, but we manage to get the job done and go home tired. It keeps us busy and out of trouble.
