K T C Fruit Company

We are down on Ignou Road in Chattarpur Extension at B103. K T C Fruit Company is what we call ourselves on the paperwork. We get the crates in very early in the morning, usually while most of the city is still sleeping and the air is still cool. The fruit comes in from the main mandis and we spend hours sorting through it to see what's good and what's not. It depends on the season really, so some months it is all mangoes and other times we have piles of apples and oranges and bananas. It’s a messy job sometimes with all the wooden crates and sticky packing material lying around on the floor. We sell to some of the smaller stalls and also to people living in the apartments nearby who want to buy in bulk for their families. The air around the shop always smells like whatever fruit is currently in season. We have to keep things moving fast because fruit doesn't stay fresh for long in the Delhi heat. My father started this business years ago and now I help him run it every day. We have a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting and the local deliveries. Ignou Road is always crowded so getting the trucks in and out is the hardest part of our day. We don't spend money on fancy signs. If the fruit is good, people come back and tell their friends about us. It’s hard work but it’s what we do.
