If you walk down 5 9 C in Roop Nagar, you’ll find Jaspal Kaur Public School. It’s right here in the heart of Delhi 110007. I’ve been working here for a long time and I’ve seen the walls get painted more times than I can count. The school isn't some giant campus with a swimming pool. It’s a local place where kids from the neighborhood come to learn. The hallways are usually pretty noisy during the breaks, which is just how a school should be. We have old wooden desks and blackboards that still get used every day. Our staff is mostly people who have lived in Delhi their whole lives. We don't have any big speeches about our philosophy or anything like that. We just make sure the students show up on time and do their lessons. In the mornings, there’s a bit of a rush at the gate with parents dropping off their children. Then things settle down once the first bell rings. We have a small playground that gets very dusty in the summer months. It’s a simple setup but it works for the families around Roop Nagar. We try to keep the place tidy but with so many kids, there’s always a stray pencil or a bit of paper somewhere. We are just a local school doing our part every day and making sure the children have a place to study.
