J. K. Shawl House

J. K. Shawl House is located in the Bhogal area, specifically on Masjid Lane. Our house number is 153, and we are right near the Jangpura Extension. It is a very old part of the city, and the lanes can be quite narrow and confusing if you aren't from around here. We have been working with shawls for a long time. It’s a seasonal kind of life; when the weather in Delhi starts to turn cold, that is when we are really on our feet all day. People come from all over the neighborhood to see what we have. The shop is basically a part of the house, so it has a very homey feel to it. You might hear the sounds of the kitchen or the kids playing in the back while you are looking at the shawls. We keep everything stacked in large wooden cupboards to keep them safe from the dust and the moths. Masjid Lane is a busy place, especially on Fridays, and there is always something going on outside our door. We don’t have any fancy sales staff. It is usually just us or one of the kids helping out. We like the personal touch of talking to every person who walks in. It isn't a big business, but it keeps us busy and it has been our livelihood for years. Most people find us through word of mouth, which is fine by us.
