Indian Weave

Our spot is over in Abul Fazal Enclave, which is part of the Jamia Nagar area near Okhla. We’re located at H 13, right by the university. Being so close to Jamia Millia Islamia means there are always students and teachers walking around. Indian Weave is a quiet place for the most part. We focus on the actual weaving and the texture of the fabrics. It’s not a big showroom with mirrors and lights. Instead, it’s more of a workshop feel. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood coming through the windows—the rickshaws, the kids playing, the calls to prayer. We’ve been in this building for a while now. The space is a bit tight because we have so much stock kept in the back. Sometimes the delivery guys struggle to find the right entrance because the enclave can be a bit like a maze. We spend a lot of time checking the threads and making sure the patterns are coming out the way they should. It’s slow work. You can’t rush a good weave. We mostly talk to our regulars who know what they want. We don't do much advertising; word of mouth in the Jamia area usually brings people in. It feels more like a community here than just a business zone. We just keep doing what we know how to do, day after day, in our little corner of the enclave.
