House Of Alams. Chanakya Place is a tight squeeze. We are in A 2/13 14 GF, not far from Madina Masjid. You can hear the prayer calls and the motorbikes zooming past. It’s a busy corner of Uttam Nagar. Our place has a few rooms where we keep everything. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint but we are too busy to bother with that right now. We have shelves stacked high with goods. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific item in the back. We use the front area for meeting people and the back for the actual work. It’s often dusty from the street outside. We have a small bench for visitors. The floor is tiled and we sweep it every morning, but the dust always finds its way back. Near the mosque, it gets very crowded on Fridays. We have to plan our deliveries around that. It’s a family-run kind of vibe here. Everyone chips in with the heavy lifting. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a lobby. Just a bunch of us working in a shop. We get the work done and that's it. Sometimes we stay for a bit of gossip over tea. The electricity is mostly okay but the water can be a problem sometimes. It’s just how it is in this part of Delhi. We make it work. It's a bit loud but we've gotten used to the noise.
