Our shop is tucked away in Surya House, right at numbers 1420 and 1421. If you know Gali Kishan Dutt, you know it gets pretty crowded around here. We are in the middle of Maliwara, which is a busy part of Chandni Chowk in New Delhi. It’s not a quiet place at all. Every morning we open up the shutters and start moving the saree boxes around. We have sarees piled up to the ceiling sometimes. It’s mostly just us and a couple of helpers working through the day. We spend a lot of time showing different fabrics to people who come in from all over. The fans are always humming because it gets quite hot in these narrow lanes. We’ve been at this address on Nai Sarak for a long time now. It’s an old building, and the stairs are a bit narrow, but we make it work. We don't have a big fancy sign or anything. Most people find us because they’ve been coming here for years or someone told them about our collection. We handle the billing and the packing right there on the main counter. It’s a bit messy with all the thread and plastic wrap, but that’s just how a saree business goes. Sometimes the delivery guys have a hard time getting their carts through the crowd outside, so we have to wait. It's just a regular local business doing what we do every day.
