Hampton Pubilc Junior High School is tucked away at D 26 on Khyali Ram Gali in the Mahipalpur Extension. If you know Mahipalpur, you know how tight the streets can be around here. Khyali Ram Gali is a narrow lane, and it gets very crowded with bikes and people walking. Finding a place to park is almost impossible, so most people just walk or take a rickshaw. The school itself is a simple building that blends in with the rest of the neighborhood. We have a small entrance that leads into the main area. It’s a junior high, so the kids are mostly at that age where they are growing fast and making a lot of noise. The classrooms are small, and we try to keep them as tidy as possible, but it’s hard with so many students. We don’t have a big yard, so physical activity is a bit limited, but we manage with the space we have. The staff room is often full of tea cups and notebooks. Being near the airport, you can sometimes hear the planes taking off, which was distracting at first, but now we don’t even notice it. The local shops nearby sell snacks and stationery, so there’s always a bit of a crowd outside the gate when the day ends. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing, day in and day out, for the local kids.
