Down in Shahdara, specifically on Chanakya Marg in Chajjupur, you will find our workshop at 52-C. Gupta Engineering Company has been part of this street for a long time. It’s a busy area and the noise of the traffic on Chanakya Marg is something you just get used to after a week. Inside the workshop, it’s mostly the sound of metal and machines running. We have high ceilings but it still gets stuffy when the sun is hitting the roof in the afternoon. Most of the staff have been here for years, so everyone knows exactly where every tool is kept. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. If someone comes by, they just walk up to the main floor and find one of us. There are always some old parts lying in the corners and the floor has those dark oil stains that you can't really scrub away anymore. We spend a lot of time just looking at drawings and working with our hands. It’s honest work and it’s often dirty, but that’s just the nature of engineering in a place like this. When it rains, the water splashes up from the street, and we have to move some of the equipment back from the entrance. It’s a regular routine of starting early and staying until the light fades. We just focus on the job at hand and keep the machines humming along day after day.
