About G.D. Goenka Public School , Rohini – Education in New Delhi
The school sits right on Plot No 3 in Rohini, Sector 22. It’s a big building, and you can’t really miss it if you’re driving through Pocket 7. Every morning, the buses line up and it’s a bit of a mess with all the traffic, but we manage. I’ve been working here for a bit now, and the halls are always full of noise until the bell rings for first period. Then it gets quiet, except for the sound of someone dragging a chair or a teacher talking in one of the rooms. The sun hits the front windows really hard in the afternoon, making the lobby quite bright. We have a lot of stairs, and my legs usually ache by the end of the day from walking up and down them. The playground gets dusty when the wind picks up, which happens a lot in this part of Delhi. We spend a lot of time making sure the registers are filled out and the water coolers are actually cold. It’s just a regular public school. Nothing like what you see in the movies, just kids trying to get through their lessons and us trying to keep things running. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to open the windows and deal with the heat. We’ve got a lot of families from around Rohini who send their kids here. It’s a busy place, and there is always something that needs fixing, like a leaky tap or a stuck door.
