Being on the third floor of C-128 in the New Subzi Mandi at Azadpur means we see everything. Azadpur is a loud, crowded place, especially early in the morning. If you’ve ever been to the mandi, you know the chaos. We are right in the middle of it. Trucks coming in, people shouting, the smell of fruit everywhere. Our office is a bit of an escape from the heat and noise downstairs, though the noise still finds its way up. We handle a lot of fruit logistics. It’s about knowing what’s coming from where and making sure it gets to the right spot. The stairs up to the third floor keep us fit, that’s for sure. It’s not a place for fancy clothes because you’re going to get some dirt on you eventually. We spend our time on the phone or looking at crates. Every season brings something different. Mangos, apples, whatever is in. It keeps the work interesting but also stressful. If the trucks are late, we stay late. That’s just the fruit business. We don't have much in the way of decor, just the essentials to keep the business moving. It's a small crew and we've been working together a long time. We know the rhythm of the market. Sometimes it’s exhausting, but it’s what we do. We’re just a small part of the big Azadpur machine, trying to keep things moving as best as we can every day.
