Fancy General Store

You can find us at 8/64-65 on Railway Road, right near the Sanatan Dharm Mandir. Being near the temple means we see a lot of people every day, especially during festivals. We are a general store, so we sell a bit of everything—soap, notebooks, batteries, and snacks. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, and I have a long wooden stick with a hook on it to get things down from the top. It’s an old shop that my family has run for years. The floor is made of smooth stone that stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We don't have any fancy displays or neon signs. There is just a wooden counter where I stand and weigh out things for people. Sometimes the bags rip if we put too much in them, so we have to be careful. The Main Market is always loud with the sounds of bells from the temple and people talking. I usually have a cup of tea sitting on the counter, but it often gets cold before I can finish it because someone always needs something. We don't use a computer for the billing, just a paper pad and a pen. It’s a simple way of doing things, but it works for us. We know which neighbors like which brand of tea, and we try to keep it in stock for them. It’s just life on Railway Road.
