Our work happens over in Chittaranjan Park at K-1990. It is a decent neighborhood to be in, though finding a spot to park the scooter can be a nightmare some mornings. Our main focus is embroidery design. We spend hours on our computers making sure the digital patterns are going to stitch correctly once they actually get onto the fabric. It involves a lot of staring at the screen and moving small lines around by a few millimeters. Some of the staff have been doing this for a long time, so they remember how it was before everything went digital. We don't have one of those big, polished corporate offices. Our space is just a practical room where we can get the work done without too much noise. The office is usually covered in design sketches and half-empty tea cups. We talk about the stitch counts and the colors quite a lot. The area is mostly houses and families, so it stays fairly quiet compared to the big markets in Delhi. We like that. When a customer sends over a rough idea, we just try to find the most sensible way to turn it into a file. It takes a lot of patience and good eyesight. We aren't trying to become some massive global firm. We just want to make designs that don't cause problems for the machines and look clean on the shirts. It’s a good way to earn a living.
