Dauji Aalu Bhandar

Dauji Aalu Bhandar is located at 42/1 in the Pandav Nagar area of Lakshmi Nagar. As the name suggests, we deal mostly in potatoes. It’s a simple business. Every morning, sacks of potatoes arrive, and we spend the first part of the day sorting through them. It can be a messy job with all the dirt and the heavy lifting, but it’s what we do. The shop is more of a storage space where people come to buy in bulk or just a few kilos for their kitchen. Pandav Nagar is a crowded neighborhood, so there is always someone passing by. We have been here long enough that most of the local vegetable sellers and residents know us. We don’t have any fancy signs or computers. Everything is done the old-fashioned way with a manual scale. Sometimes the price of potatoes goes up or down, and we have to explain that to the customers. It’s just a part of the trade. The floor is usually covered in some soil from the sacks, and the air smells like earth. We open up early because that’s when the demand is highest. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s steady. We just keep our heads down and serve the people who come to our door. It is a basic life but it is ours and we like it well enough.
