Rajeev Saree Emporium

If you go to Chandni Chowk and find Katra Hardyal, we are on the first floor at number 730. Rajeev Saree Emporium has been here for years. Being on the first floor means it is a little quieter than the ground level, but only a little. We have sarees everywhere. They are folded in boxes, hung on the walls, and piled on the counters. When a customer comes in, we sit them down and start showing them the different patterns. It takes a lot of time because there are so many choices. We have to be careful with the delicate fabrics. My hands are usually tired by the end of the day from unfolding so many sarees. The stairs up to the shop are a bit narrow, so you have to watch your step. We have a couple of big fans to keep the air moving because it gets stuffy in the Katra. We do not use any fancy marketing. People find us because their mothers or aunts shopped here before. It is a lot of word of mouth. We know which colors are in fashion this season and which ones are classics. Sometimes we share a meal in the back during the slow hours. It is a traditional way of doing business. We treat everyone who walks in like a guest. It is just how things are done in Chandni Chowk. We stay open late into the evening.
