Dakshinpuri is a tight-knit place, and our spot at C-99 fits right in with the rest of the street. It’s a plain building with a heavy metal door that squeaks every time someone opens it. I’ve been meaning to oil the hinges for months, but I always forget once things get busy. Inside, the rooms are a bit narrow, so we have to be careful how we arrange the seating so people can actually walk through. We’ve got a couple of ceiling fans that hum pretty loudly, which helps drown out the kids playing in the lane outside. The lighting isn't great, but it’s enough to see the books. Usually, the afternoons are the busiest time when everyone shows up at once. I spend a lot of my day just checking schedules and talking to parents who drop by to ask questions. We keep a big register on the main desk to track everything manually because the computer is old and slow. It’s a very hands-on way of running things. There’s a small shop across the way that sells snacks, so the lobby usually smells like whatever they’re frying at the moment. It isn't a corporate office by any means. It’s just a local place where we spend our days working through the material and trying to keep everything organized in our own way. It works for us and for the people who live around here.
