Tilak Nagar is a quiet neighborhood for the most part. Our place, Birthray Classes, is at numbers 83 and 84. It’s basically two rooms we converted into a study space. We started out with just a handful of students from the street. Now we have more, but it still feels like a small local thing. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the whiteboards are clean, and that is what matters for the lessons. We don't have a big staff. It's just a couple of us who know the subjects well. Usually, the kids show up around four or five in the evening. You’ll see a row of bicycles parked out front along the wall. Sometimes the street dogs sleep under them. We don’t have a fancy waiting area for parents. They usually just drop the kids off and head to the market nearby. If a student doesn't understand a math problem, we just go over it three or four times. We don’t rush to finish the syllabus. It’s more important that they actually get it. Tilak Ngr is a good community. We know most of the parents by name now. It’s not a corporate business. It’s just us helping out with schoolwork in a way that makes sense. Sometimes we have tea and biscuits during the break. It’s just a regular, honest place to study without any pressure. We like being part of the neighborhood here.
