Our place, Ajit Singh Om Parkash Ltd, is situated in Ishwar Nagar, over in Naya Bazar. If you know Naya Bazar, you know it’s a place that never really sleeps. It’s crowded, the lanes are narrow, and there’s always someone shouting or a cart moving by. We’ve been part of this market for a long time. We handle bulk goods, mostly grains and pulses, I’d say. The office is small and tucked away behind the main storage area. It’s usually filled with the smell of jute bags and dry grain. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning or modern furniture. It’s just wooden desks and old ledgers. Most of our business is done through word of mouth and long-standing relationships with other traders. We don’t really bother with marketing or trying to look bigger than we are. It’s a tough business with small margins, so we have to be careful with everything. Sometimes we stay late into the night just to finish the inventory checks. The guys who work here have been with us for years. We’re more like a small community than a company. We just try to get through the day, handle the orders, and make sure the trucks are loaded right. It’s not glamorous, but it’s what we do. You’ll find us right in the middle of the market chaos, just trying to keep things moving as best as we can every day.
