Abacus Mental Mathematics Academy

We are over here at East Patel Nagar, specifically 25/34 in room 204. It isn't a huge place, but we have enough chairs for the kids who come after school. Most days it’s just the sound of those plastic beads clicking. You know the abacus ones? They make a specific noise when twenty kids are all doing it at once. It gets a bit loud when they finish a problem and start talking, but mostly it’s focused. We’ve been in this 204 unit for a while now. The stairs can be a bit steep if you are carrying bags, but everyone gets used to it. We just sit here and go through the mental math steps one by one. It’s not fancy. There’s a water cooler in the corner that sometimes makes a glugging sound that makes the kids laugh. We have some charts on the walls about different levels, but they’re starting to curl at the edges from the humidity. People from around the neighborhood know the building. Sometimes the parents wait outside in the hallway if they’re early. It’s a simple setup at Abacus Mental Mathematics Academy. We keep the registers on a wooden desk near the door. Nothing is digitalized in a fancy way, we just write down who came and what page they are on. It works for us and the families around East Patel Nagar seem okay with how we do things. We usually open up in the afternoons and stay until the last batch finishes their practice sheets.
