Vengamamba Bricks Company

Vengamamba Bricks Company sits at 564 Raja Street here in Gudur. It is a busy spot on the road and we spend a lot of time just watching the traffic go by while we load up the trailers. The bricks are heavy and the sun is usually beating down on us for most of the day. We have a few guys who have worked here for years. We do not have a fancy website or a front desk. Most people just pull up and talk to us directly in the dirt yard. The dust gets into everything, even the drinking water if we do not keep it covered tight with a lid. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend half the morning fixing a belt or cleaning out some jammed clay. It is just part of the daily routine for us. Raja Street is always loud with horns, but you get used to it after a week or two of working here. We eat our lunch sitting on the stacks of bricks under the shade of the big tree in the corner. It is honest work and it keeps us tired. The walls of our small office are covered in old calendars and notes written in pencil on the wood. We do not use computers much for the day to day stuff. It is all about the physical stuff here. Moving, stacking, and counting until the sun goes down.
