Sri Buchiyyamma Rice Mill

You can find us at 1/5/61 on the Komaripalem Main Road. Sri Buchiyyamma Rice Mill is a local fixture in Tossipudi. It’s not a very long road, so we see the same faces passing by every day. The mill is an old-fashioned setup. We don't have all those new computer-controlled systems you see in the big cities. We rely on what we know and what we’ve learned over the years. My father spent most of his life here, and I guess I’m doing the same. It’s dusty work, and by the end of the shift, everyone is covered in a fine layer of white powder. We don’t mind it. It’s just how it is when you work with grain. We keep the doors open to let whatever breeze there is come through, though it usually just brings in more dust. We have a few regulars who bring their harvests to us every season. We chat about the rain and the crops while the machines do their thing. It’s a simple rhythm. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We’re just a rice mill in a small town, trying to do a decent job for the people who live around here. There aren't any big corporate meetings or fancy reports. We just count the bags and make sure the rice is what it should be. It’s enough for us. It keeps the family going and the town fed.
