S V L Rice Store has its doors open at 57-8-21 on Trunk Road in Santhapet. We handle a lot of grain every single day. The store smells like raw rice and jute bags, which is something you get used to quickly. It is a heavy job, moving the sacks around and weighing everything out for the customers who walk in. Most people around Santhapet know us because we’ve been on this corner for quite a while. We get the big trucks in early to unload, and that can be a bit of a headache with the traffic on Trunk Road. We sell to regulars who have been coming to us for years and also new people who just moved into the area. It’s not complicated work, but it is physically demanding. Our floors are usually covered in a bit of dust from the bags, but we try to sweep up when it gets too much. We do not have a big team, just a few of us who know the different types of rice we keep in stock. We do not do any flashy advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are.
