If you look opposite the Jain Bhavan on Artillery Center Road, you’ll find us at Shop No.7 in the Anand Rushi Apartments. It’s a busy corner of the world, especially with all the traffic coming through. Inside, the shelves are pretty packed with all sorts of medical supplies and surgical items. We spend a lot of time checking boxes and making sure the stock is where it’s supposed to be. It can get a bit overwhelming when three different deliveries show up at the same time and the delivery bikes are parked all over the front. We’ve been here for a bit, so we know most of the doctors and hospital staff who send people over for specific items. It’s a lot of standing behind the counter and looking through catalogs when someone asks for something we don't have right on the shelf. We don't have any big slogans or anything. We just open up in the morning, sweep the front step, and start answering the phone. It’s a steady kind of life. People come in when they’re usually having a bit of a tough time with health issues, so we try to just get them what they need without a lot of fuss. There's a small stool in the corner where I sit when the store gets quiet, usually around two in the afternoon. That's when I do the ordering and make sure we aren't running low on the essentials. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, so we have a ladder that’s always in the way. We get all kinds of people, from the aunties living in the apartments above to folks who’ve traveled from the other side of town. Sometimes the labels peel off in the heat, and we have to re-mark them by hand. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s a living. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, but the pharmacy stays pretty much the same. The glass on the front door always has finger marks on it by evening. We just keep going.
