Government Degree College

If you go down to Chandur near the telephone exchange, you will find our building at 1-1-23. Government Degree College is a busy place, especially during admission season when the halls get crowded with people from all over Nalgonda. It gets quite hot here in this part of Telangana, so everyone is usually looking for a bit of shade under the trees in the yard. The building is older, with high ceilings and walls that could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it stays relatively cool inside. We have a lot of paperwork to deal with every single day, mostly stacks of forms and registers that we keep on the wooden desks in the main office. There is no big sign out front, just the usual crowd of students standing around talking between their classes. You can hear the bells ringing to signal the start of a new hour, and then the hallways go quiet for a bit while everyone is inside. We usually have tea brought in from the shop around the corner twice a day. The furniture is heavy and old-fashioned, but it does what it needs to do. Most of us have worked here for years and we know the routine like the back of our hands. It’s just a normal government setup where we try to keep things organized despite the constant rush of people coming in and out. It’s a basic, functional space for everyone in the community.
