Our shop, Samanta Builders And Stores, is located on Garighat Road in Raghunathganj. We are right here in the Murshidabad district, which is a place we have lived in forever. The store is a mix of things. We have building supplies like pipes and rods, but we also keep some general hardware items that people might need in a hurry. It's a long road and we are one of the places people stop at when they are headed into town for their errands. The building itself is old, with high ceilings and a floor that has seen a lot of heavy boots over the years. We open early in the morning because that’s when the builders like to get their supplies before the sun gets too high and makes work difficult. My family has been involved in this for a long time. We don't use a lot of fancy computers; mostly we just write things down in a big ledger and keep track of everything manually. Sometimes it takes a minute to find a specific part in the back because we have so much stuff crammed in there, but we eventually get it. It's a bit messy, but we know where everything is. We talk to the customers about their families and the weather while we load up their carts or trucks. It’s just how we do things here in Raghunathganj. We aren't trying to be anything big or fancy, just a reliable place for the local folks to get what they need.
