Vimal Textiles Mill

Vimal Textiles Mill is located at 39 Kalbadevi, on the 11th Cross. We are up on the 2nd floor, so there is a bit of a climb to get to us. The stairs are narrow and a little steep, which makes it a real challenge when we have to carry big rolls of fabric up. Kalbadevi is a very old and crowded part of the city. There are wires hanging everywhere outside and the streets are filled with people selling all kinds of things. Inside our mill, the air is full of tiny bits of lint and the constant sound of the looms. It is a rhythmic noise that you get used to after a few days. We have big windows, but they are usually covered in dust from the street traffic. The floor vibrates when the machines are all running at once. We have a small space where we sit down to eat our lunch and talk about the daily news. Most of us have been working here for many years, so we know the machines better than we know our own homes. There is no air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that wobble a bit when they are on high speed. It is hard work, and the days are quite long, but we like being in the heart of the textile district. You can hear the city humming outside, but in here, we just focus on the cloth we are making.
