Veena Gems

Down here in Prabhadevi, things move pretty fast. We are at 51, Mamta-A, right on Appa Saheb Marathe Marg. It’s a decent spot. We deal with gems. It isn't like the movies where everything is sparkling and perfect. Most of the time, we are looking at stones under small lights, trying to figure out what’s what. There’s a lot of weighing and measuring involved. Sometimes we spend hours just sorting through a small batch. The office isn't very large, but it’s enough for us. We get a lot of noise from the street, but you get used to it after a week or two. People come in looking for something specific for a ring or a necklace. We show them what we have in the safe. We don't use big words or try to push anyone into buying. If they like it, they buy it. If not, they move on. That’s fair. Veena Gems has been around for a bit, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. New buildings going up everywhere. But we stay right here. It’s a quiet routine. We check the stones, talk to the suppliers, and handle the paperwork. Sometimes the stones are small and easy to lose if you aren't careful, so we keep things very organized. It’s a lot of focus. We like the work though. It keeps us busy and the days go by quick.
