Living and working near the Eastern Express Highway means there is always noise. Vasantdada Patil Educational Complex is right there near Everard Nagar, in the Sion-Chunabatti area. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, and we are right in the thick of it. The commute can be a nightmare for the staff and students, but we all manage somehow. The building is a big complex, and it takes a lot of walking to get from one end to the other. We don’t really have time for polished mission statements. We are too busy making sure the elevators are working and the classrooms are assigned correctly. It’s a bit of a maze inside, to be honest. You see people rushing around with bags and books all day long. In the monsoon, the whole area gets a bit damp, and we have to watch out for leaks. It’s just part of life in Sion. We have some trees around the edges that help with the highway sound, but you still hear the horns. It’s a practical place for people who want to get their education and then get on with their lives. We provide the space and the teachers, and the rest is up to the students. It’s a big, messy, lively place that feels exactly like the city around it. There is always someone new to meet in the hallways. We just keep the lights on and the classes running.
