Our shop is situated at number 3 in Dahisar Chakala. Being right opposite the toll naka means we deal with a lot of noise and traffic all day long. You can always hear trucks braking or people honking their horns just outside. It is a very loud environment to work in. Stacks of tyres are piled up everywhere you look, from the walls to the entrance. The ground is usually covered in black dust and grease which is just part of the daily routine here. We spend a lot of our time out on the pavement. Whether we are checking air pressure or swapping out a set of wheels, my hands are always dirty. There is a small bench inside for people to sit on, though many prefer to stand and watch the cars go by. It is a very practical setup without any fancy decor. We just have our tools and the stock we need for the day. When it rains, we have to pull everything back from the edge to stay dry. A lot of different drivers pass through here since we are on such a main route. It is a simple life centered around fixing flats and changing tyres. We don't make a big fuss about anything. It is just us doing our job. The smell of rubber is something we don't even notice anymore after being here for so long.
