Oetiker India Pvt. Ltd. is out in the Additional Patalganga Industrial Area, specifically in Village Chavane near Khalapur. It’s a bit of a trek to get here from the main city, located in the Raigad district. The landscape around the factory is a mix of industrial buildings and some bits of green village land. We work at N-14, which is a large site compared to some of the smaller workshops nearby. The day starts quite early for us, with staff arriving on buses or bikes from the surrounding towns. Inside the building, there is a lot of activity. We have machines running and people monitoring different parts of the production. It’s a very practical environment. We wear our uniforms and follow the routine every single day. There’s a lot of focus on the details of what we are making, so everyone is usually pretty quiet while they work. We have a canteen where we all gather for lunch, and that’s when it gets a bit noisier with everyone talking. The weather in Maharashtra can get very humid, especially out here near Rasyani, so the fans and cooling are something we all appreciate. It’s a steady kind of life here. We don't have any fancy corporate stuff in the breakroom, just the basics. We get the work done, pack everything up, and head home when the shift ends. The road home is long, especially during the rains when the traffic slows down. We come back and do it all again tomorrow.
