The Glass Hub

We are over in Santacruz West. It’s a good area, but finding a parking spot near us is nearly impossible most days. We run things as The Glass Hub. We deal with glass, so everything in here is a bit fragile. You have to watch your step and make sure you don't swing your bag around. We spend a lot of time cutting and measuring. There’s always that sound of a diamond cutter scratching across a surface. It’s a clean sort of work, but you have to be careful about the small splinters that get everywhere. We don't have a fancy showroom with spotlights. It’s more of a workshop feel. We have sheets of glass leaning against the walls and scraps in bins near the back. People from the neighborhood come in when they have a broken window or want a new mirror for their bathroom. We don’t do big sales pitches. We just take the measurements and tell them when it will be ready. Sometimes we get the measurements wrong and have to start over, which is frustrating but that’s just part of the job. The shop gets a lot of light in the afternoon, which is nice. We usually have the radio playing softly in the background. It’s a quiet life compared to the markets in the south of the city. We just do our work, sweep up the glass dust at the end of the day, and head home. It’s simple and it works for us.
