Tata Store

If you’re walking down Charni Road, you might see the Tata Store tucked into Shop Number 10 at Ground Plaza. We’re right there in Chakala, just next to the Amrut Diamond House, which is a big landmark for people looking for our shop. The store isn't very large, so things can get a bit cramped when more than three or four people come in at once. I usually spend the morning sweeping the front and getting the shelves straight because the street dust is never-ending. It’s a busy road, so there’s always noise from the cars and people passing by. We’ve been at this spot for a bit now. It’s a good location because people are always walking by on their way to the station or the market. We don't have any fancy displays or bright flashing lights outside. Just the stuff we sell and a simple counter where I sit most of the day. Sometimes the neighbor from the diamond house comes over for a quick chat or some water. It’s that kind of neighborhood. You get to know the regulars pretty well after a few months. The afternoon sun hits the front of the shop quite hard, so it gets a bit warm inside during the summer. We have a small fan that helps a little bit. It’s just a basic shop doing basic things for local people. We don't try to make it seem like something it isn't. We just open up and wait for customers.
