If you find yourself in Tilak Nagar, Chembur, you might walk right past Building 21 without noticing much. We are up in Room 723, which is also labeled 101 for some reason that still confuses the delivery guys. It’s a typical Mumbai apartment building, so the elevator is often busy or undergoing repairs. Inside our space, it’s mostly computers, tangled cables, and the constant clicking of keyboards. Working with a big name like Johnson & Johnson means there is always something to fix or update, but our actual office is quite modest. There are no fancy glass walls here. Instead, we have stacks of old monitors in the corner and a small fridge that usually only has some milk and water. The windows look out over the rooftops of Chembur, and you can hear the local trains if the wind is blowing the right way. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when the whole team is in, but we make it work. Lunchtime usually involves someone going down to get vada pav from the stall around the corner. We don’t have a big sign outside, just a small nameplate near the door. It’s a quiet place where we focus on the technical side of things without much fuss. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but the systems run fine, and that’s what really matters to us. We’ve been in this room for years and have no plans to move.
