Shankar Jewels Ltd.

You can find Shankar Jewels Ltd. over at G-15 in the Gem & Jewellery Complex-II. This is inside SEEPZ in Andheri East. It is a big area with lots of security guards at the gates. We have to show our IDs every morning just to get to work. Our unit is not very large but it is where we do everything from morning till night. Shankar Jewels Ltd. has been here for several years. The walls are painted a dull white and we have rows of desks for the staff. It feels a bit like a school classroom sometimes when everyone is working quietly. Andheri East is a very busy part of Mumbai. The trains are always full and the roads are even worse with the traffic. We usually get in early to beat the rush. Inside the complex, it is a bit more controlled than the streets outside. We have a small pantry where we eat our lunch together. Most of us bring food from home in tiffin carriers. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls or expensive furniture. It is just a place where work happens. We focus on the tasks we have for the day and try to get through them. Sometimes we stay late when there is a lot to finish. The air conditioning is always humming in the background. It is a bit noisy but you stop noticing it after a while. G-15 is our little corner. We just keep doing what we do.
