Our printing setup is in Gala No 2 of the Baijnath Yadav Chawl. We are located in Pratap Nagar, right alongside the Western Express Highway in Jogeshwari. Being so close to the highway means there’s a constant roar of traffic day and night. The gala is a small space where we’ve squeezed in our printing equipment. It’s quite traditional, with a lot of the work being done by hand or on older machines that we’ve maintained for years. The walls are stained with ink splashes, and the floor is usually covered in paper scraps by the end of the shift. It’s a very humble setting, being part of a chawl, but it’s where we’ve built our life. We don’t have a website or any fancy brochures. People just know where to find us. The ventilation isn't the best, so it gets quite hot in the summer months. We often leave the door wide open just to get a bit of air, even if it brings in the dust from the road. Our neighbors are mostly other small workshops, so everyone understands the noise. We work long hours, often starting before the sun is fully up and staying until the work is done. There’s a sense of community here in Pratap Nagar that you don’t get in the big office buildings. We just focus on the printing, one sheet at a time, and try to keep our machines in good working order. That is our daily life.
